Misty Willer (1979-2024)

Message from acting director Stuart Bale:

Dear SSL friends,

I’m very sad to tell you that our colleague and dear friend Misty Willer passed away in the early morning hours on Sunday, May 26. She was 45 years old and had been battling brain cancer for 6 years. She is survived by her husband, Chris, whom she met in high school, and her two children, Wyatt who is 10 and Claire who is 8.

Misty began her career at SSL in 1999 and worked until just a couple of weeks ago. She was deeply dedicated to SSL, our mission and our successes. She was an expert financial analyst, but she was so much more, too. Speaking from my own experience, she was a contract manager, a scheduler, a deputy project manager, an events organizer, and a superb host to many of our visitors. Kate Harps puts it well, “She was a smart, energetic, cheerful force of nature.” She was also a good friend. SSL will be a poorer place without her…

The lab will send flowers to her family. Misty did not want a memorial service and her family are honouring that request. We do have an SSL Meet-and-Greet this coming Thursday and we can pay tribute to her and we’ll have a card for all of us to sign and send. If you would like to send a personal note to her family, let me know and I can provide the postal address.

Feel free to forward this on to any of Misty’s friends and colleagues who may not be on this thread.

Warmly,
Stuart

Misty Willer

Awww she was such a lovely woman. I met Misty in the mother’s club and she was always so sweet and fun to talk to. Rest with the Lord Misty. 🙏🏻🩷
