Andreas Keiling

Biography

Born in Berlin, Germany, Dr. Andreas Keiling graduated with a M.Sc. in Computer Science from the TU Berlin and a B.Sc. in Physics from Imperial College, London, before moving to the University of Minnesota, where he completed his Ph.D. in Physics in 2001 with a focus in Space Physics. Following a two-year postdoctoral position at Paul Sabatier University in Toulouse, France, he moved to the Space Sciences Laboratory at the University of California, Berkeley in 2004, where he works as a Research Physicist.

Dr. Keiling has also taught at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and the University of Maryland-University College, and has been a visiting researcher at institutions in Japan and Korea. Since September 2024, he is currently on detail to the U. S. National Science Foundation in Alexandria, Virginia, as Program Director for Solar-Terrestrial Research.

Dr. Keiling has published on a broad range of topics within space physics, including three comprehensive review articles, and he has been the editor of five scientific books.

With a lifelong interest in global scientific cross-cultural communication, he has organized five international, interdisciplinary conferences. In doing so, his focus has been in building collaborations, engaging and supporting early-career scientists, and promoting a diverse science community. He has published work from these experiences.
