“Why study the universe?” begins SSL solar physicist Dr. Juan Carlos Martinez Oliveros. “I would rather ask myself, ‘Why not study the universe?’ We are all children of the stars—all our essential components come from stars, from their explosions.” For the third year in a row, the Consulate General of Mexico in San Francisco has partnered with Science at Cal of the University of California, Berkeley to organize Science Day, an event that gives the Spanish-speaking community the chance to interact with scientists and take a deeper dive into their daily lives. 2022 features six UC Berkeley scientists in individual segments for the series Un Vistazo al Laboratorio, including SSL’s own Juan Carlos (in Spanish with English subtitles).
