The payload for NASA’s Compton Spectrometer and Imager (COSI) satellite mission is now being built at UC Berkeley’s Space Sciences Laboratory (SSL). In this series of videos, John Tomsick, research scientist at SSL and COSI principal investigator, describes how the Compton telescope operates. COSI will map the gamma-ray sky to learn more about element formation, antimatter, black holes, neutron stars, gravitational waves and neutrinos. COSI is expected to launch in 2027.
