Dr. Raul Monsalve Jara is an experimental cosmologist. He studies the first billion years of the Universe using radio measurements obtained with ground- and space-based experiments. His main scientific objective is to detect and characterize the 21-cm spectral line produced by neutral hydrogen gas in the intergalactic medium before and during the formation of the first stars. Measurements of the 21-cm signal have been recognized as one of the most promising approaches to observe the evolution of the early Universe and the first luminous objects. These measurements also have the potential to reveal exotic physics (connected to Dark Matter and Dark Energy) and test the standard cosmological model as a whole.
