4 Jan 2014, Dell X200 experiencing Blue Screen Of Death (BSOD) I am suspecting this is another communications crash. Running ipconfig /all at 08:58.... Perhaps ip addresses are good longer term, and I can use Satow's manual addressing mode to avoid future BSOD? Start::ControlPanel::NetworkConnections::Wireless:General; Scroll down to bottom "TCP/IP" and click it; Click Properties; Click Manual and enter IP address... IP address: 198.128.196.32 Subnet Mask: 255.255.240.0 Default Gateway: 198.128.192.1 Manually enter DNS server... Preferred DNS; 131.243.5.1 no alternate. Click OK; Close; and Reboot. Tried to open Start::ControlPanel::NetworkConnections::WirelessNetworkConnection but that utility refused to open! However, right clicking it offered a "Repair" option. Repair worked: Windows disabled wireless then reenabled wireless. Suddenly, IP address became OK and browser became live. Running ipconfig /all gives me the following..... However Bruce Satow installed fixed IP addresses appropriate for SSL, so automatic IP addresses (for LBL) did not allow communications via the local wireless network. Start::Settings::Network Connections -> Local Area Connection -> General -> Properties -> General -> Scroll to bottom "TCP/IP" -> double click "TCP/IP" -> General... (.) Obtain IP address automatically ( ) or manually... (.) Obtain DNS automatically ( ) or manually... SSL standard is to use fixed addresses entered manually. LBL standard is to use automatic. Prior to Sept 2005, automatic worked everywhere. Since Sept 2005, automatic causes BSOD on WinXP. Bruce Satow does not know why. Drivers? Updates? IP= 131.243.51.136 sub= 255.255.252.0 def= 131.243.48.1 DHCP= 131.243.64.10 DNS= 131.243.64.2 and 128.3.34.186 and 131.243.64.3 Pri WINS = 131.243.129.11 Sec WINS = 128.3.132.9 Installed these addresses into ControlPanel::Network::LocalArea Reboots; no BSOD; communications is OK at LBL.
