Overcoming the Lenovo X61s laptop's Vista Black Screen of Death --- a.k.a. BSOD or KSOD---- Problem: When starting from hibernation (green crescent-moon LED), the screen remains totally dark. No mouse caret, no taskbar, no desktop. The activity LEDS look OK: disk activity, battery OK, no crescent-moon. The ThinkVantage button does nothing. The Fn-F7 key combo, which normally transfers screen data to external or internal displays, does nothing. The Ctrl-Alt-Delete request for the Task Manager does nothing. My fix: a total reboot works for me... 1. Disconnect the charger so there is no external power. 2. Hibernate the machine by holding the power button down for 5 seconds. 3. Flop the machine over and remove the battery. Now it is really OFF. 4. Count to ten, for good measure. 5. Reinsert the battery. 6. Press the power button to turn it on. 7. Now a fresh boot occurs (takes 5 minutes!) restoring screen activity. Good Luck! -Mike Lampton
