FROM SAN FRANCISCO
From airport exit take Highway 101 North into San Francisco. In San Francisco, take Highway 80 East across the Bay Bridge. After crossing the bridge, follow the signs to Highway 24 East, towards Walnut Creek. Continue on Highway 24 for about 4 miles, through the Caldecott Tunnel; be sure to be in the right lane of the right bore of the Tunnel.
After the Caldecott Tunnel, take the first exit on Fish Ranch Road which then crosses back over Highway 24. Proceed to the four-way stop; make a right turn on Grizzly Peak Blvd. Proceed about three miles to the intersection (four-way stop) with Centennial Drive. Turn left on Centennial, go about 150 yards to the Space Sciences Laboratory driveway on the left.
FROM THE OAKLAND AIRPORT
Airport Drive, the exit road from the airport , becomes Hegenberger Road. From Hegenberger Road, take Highway 880 North towards Oakland. In downtown Oakland, merge from Highway 880 to 980 to Highway 24 East, towards Walnut Creek, through the Caldecott Tunnel. Be sure to be in the right lane of the right bore of the tunnel.
After the Caldecott Tunnel, take the first exit on Fish Ranch Road which then crosses back over Highway 24. BART and BUS (weekdays only)
The University runs shuttle buses Monday through Friday from the Berkeley BART Station (C,P, or R) to Evans Hall: Heast Mining Circle on the main campus, and then from Evans Hall: Heast Mining Circle (H) to the Space Sciences Laboratory (SSL). The schedule for the (H) Hill Service Shuttle or general UC Berekely transit info, inculding schedules for the C, P, or R lines.
PARKING
Parking for visitors is available only on the Terraces, the lot to the west of the Lab. Note that a temporary permit is required. (Parking is strictly enforced!).
We suggest that meeting participants:
- Carpool to the entrance of the SSL Addition where most meetings will be held. Please do not leave your vehicle unattended in the drive in front of the SSL Addition -- this is a bus loading zone.
- Unload passengers,briefcases, laptops, etc.
- Obtain parking permit.
- Proceed to the Terraces lot.
To get to the Terraces lot:
- Exit the SSL driveway.
- Turn left on Centennial Drive.
- Proceed downhill for about 250 yards.
- Turn left into the second driveway.
Note that there are four levels in this parking lot, but SSL visitors are allowed to park only on the lower three levels. (The top level is reserved for the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute.)
There are wooden stairs from the top level of the lot up to SSL: 100 of them! At the top, turn right towards the parking lot of the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute, cross the lot, then proceed up the driveway to the left to reach the SSL buildings.
